Elephantry refers to military formations that use elephants to transport troops. [1] In antiquity, war elephants played a crucial role in a number of significant wars, particularly in Ancient India. The Remarks of Justice R Gogoi to NDTV Trigger a Notice of Privilege

Justice Ranjan Gogoi was responding to a query about his lack of presence in the Rajya Sabha after his nomination.

New Delhi: A privilege notice has been issued against former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi as a result of his comments in an interview with NDTV.

In an interview with NDTV for his memoir "Justice for the Judge," Justice Gogoi said, "I go to the Rajya Sabha whenever I feel like it."

According to the notice submitted by the Trinamool Congress today, Justice Gogoi's utterances are in contempt of the Rajya Sabha, demean the dignity of the parliament, and constitute a breach of privilege.

The contentious passages were also noted in the notification.

"You disregard the fact that during one or two sessions, I sent a note to the house stating that I would be unable to attend due to Covid (according to medical recommendation). You may enter the Rajya Sabha after only an RT-PCR until just before the last Winter Session, and I personally did not feel comfortable going there. Although social distance rules have been imposed, they are not followed. I don't find the seating arrangements to be very comfy. I go to the Rajya Sabha whenever I feel like it, or when I believe there are important issues about which I should talk. I am a nominated member who is not subject to the whims of any political party. As a result, once the bell rings for the party attendees to arrive, it does not bind me; I go where I want and go when I want... I am a member of the house who is self-contained."

The following are the remarks made by Justice R Gogoi to NDTV that precipitated the privilege motion:

In addition, he told NDTV: "What is it about the Rajya Sabha that makes it so special? If I had been the head of a tribunal, I would have had better compensation and emoluments. I will not accept any funds from the Rajya Sabha."

Justice Gogoi was responding to a question about his lack of presence in the Rajya Sabha after his nomination.

Since March 2020, he has signed in for less than 10% of all sittings, according to records.

Justice Gogoi defended his decision to join the Rajya Sabha four months after retiring from the Supreme Court in his recently published book, despite intense criticism.
