PMs Take Aim at Akhilesh Yadav's Party Over Raising Women's Marriage Age

Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked at a conference in Prayagraj attended by nearly two lakh women: "The central government has taken a major step forward. Previously, women may marry at the age of eighteen. Girls, on the other hand, want more study time ".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted his government's achievements to women's welfare and defended his government's huge proposal to raise the marriage age for women to match that of males in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Social workers and political groups have voiced their objections to the initiative.

PM Modi declared at a government function in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, attended by almost two lakh women: "The central government has taken a major step forward. Previously, women may marry at the age of eighteen. Girls, on the other hand, want more study time. That is why we are working to raise the marriage age to 21 ".

"If someone has an issue with it, they (the ladies) are seeing it too," he added, without identifying any political party.

Two Samajwadi Party MPs, as well as leaders of the Congress, CPM, and other parties, have stated that they will vote against the proposed law in parliament. However, party head Akhilesh Yadav has distanced himself from the controversy, calling the SP a "progressive paty."

Sources say the government may adjust its attitude in response to the opposition. According to sources, the government is not averse to parliamentary scrutiny of the Bill. According to a senior minister, the Bill's provisions can be examined by the select committee.

Prayagraj, which is considered the gateway to eastern Uttar Pradesh, is one of the districts where Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party have considerable voter support. With its women-centric campaign, the Congress, led by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, has also been active in the area.

"What did I say to the women of the University of Pennsylvania? Even Prime Minister Modi has knelt to demonstrate their authority "Following the Prime Minister's address today, Ms Gandhi Vadra was cited as stating.

"Why hasn't he said anything about it in the last five years? Why now, in the run-up to the elections? Our motto, "Ladki hoon, lad sakti hoon," has awoken women "She was referring to today's ceremony, in which the Prime Minister announced a transfer of 1,000 crore to Self Help Groups under Central programmes, which will help around 16 lakh women.

PM Modi said women's empowerment is a top priority for the government, from law and order to education and finance, on his tenth day in Uttar Pradesh this month ahead of elections.

"In Uttar Pradesh, there existed mafia-raj and goondaraj till five years ago. Women were the ones who suffered the most. However, you were unable to say anything. If you went to the police station, you would get a phone call in support of rapists and criminals. Yogi, on the other hand, has put the crooks in their place "he stated
