Elephants in battle

A war elephant was a military elephant that had been trained and guided by humans. The main purpose of the war elephant was to assault the enemy, break their ranks, and terrorise and terrify them. Elephantry refers to military formations that use elephants to transport troops. [1] In antiquity, war elephants played a crucial role in a number of significant wars, particularly in Ancient India. While they were only used on a limited and irregular basis in ancient China, they were a permanent staple in the armies of historical Southeast Asian kingdoms. They were also used in ancient Persia and the Mediterranean globe by Macedonian troops, Hellenistic Greek nations, the Roman Republic and later Empire, and Carthage in North Africa during classical antiquity. Throughout the Middle Ages, they had a strong presence on the battlefield in several areas. Covid Restrictions in Mumbai have been extended until December 31 due to Omicron fears.

As part of these efforts, the number of people attending any event or programme, whether in a closed or open venue, will be limited to 50% of maximum capacity.

Mumbai: Covid restrictions in place in Mumbai will last till December 31, and orders (under Sec 144) prohibiting all mass gatherings in public locations would be enforced, according to a Mumbai Police order released Wednesday.

An edict requiring all employees of all stores and commercial businesses, including those in malls, to be completely (twice) vaccinated will stay in effect.

The order further said that all buyers must be completely immunised.

All kinds of public transportation, including the commuter trains that constitute the lifeblood of the bustling metropolis, require both vaccine doses, according to the police.

The ruling also states that anyone entering the state (by whatever means) must be completely vaccinated or have a negative RT-PCR test that is valid for 72 hours.

The number of persons allowed at any event or programme in the city, whether in a closed or open place, shall be limited to 50 percent of maximum capacity.

Local emergency management officials must be notified of any gathering of more than 1,000 persons.

According to the Police Commissioner, the extension of the orders will take effect at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday and will remain in effect until December 31, or until they are revoked earlier.

Eight new Omicron cases were reported in the state yesterday, seven in Mumbai and one on the outskirts of the city. None of them had ever been internationally before, and all but one had had vaccinations.

In Maharashtra, there are a total of 28 Omicron cases: 12 in Mumbai, 10 in Pimpri Chinchwad, two in Pune, and one each in Kalyan Dombivali, Nagpur, Latur, and Vasai Virar.

When international airports across India began enforcing severe requirements for passengers from "at-risk" countries on December 1, Maharashtra went even farther, requiring institutional quarantine.

Only individuals from three 'ultra-risk' countries "must be deboarded on priority.... (and) sent to mandatory 7 days' institutional quarantine," according to newly updated rules.

Since the first two cases were announced on December 2, India has reported 60 Omicron Covid cases.
