Mumbai: Covid restrictions in place in Mumbai will last till
December 31, and orders (under Sec 144) prohibiting all mass gatherings in
public locations would be enforced, according to a Mumbai Police order released
Wednesday.
An edict requiring all employees of all stores and
commercial businesses, including those in malls, to be completely (twice)
vaccinated will stay in effect.
The order further said that all buyers must be completely
immunised.
All kinds of public transportation, including the commuter
trains that constitute the lifeblood of the bustling metropolis, require both
vaccine doses, according to the police.
The ruling also states that anyone entering the state (by
whatever means) must be completely vaccinated or have a negative RT-PCR test
that is valid for 72 hours.
The number of persons allowed at any event or programme in
the city, whether in a closed or open place, shall be limited to 50 percent of
maximum capacity.
Local emergency management officials must be notified of any
gathering of more than 1,000 persons.
According to the Police Commissioner, the extension of the
orders will take effect at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday and will remain in effect
until December 31, or until they are revoked earlier.
Eight new Omicron cases were reported in the state
yesterday, seven in Mumbai and one on the outskirts of the city. None of them
had ever been internationally before, and all but one had had vaccinations.
In Maharashtra, there are a total of 28 Omicron cases: 12 in
Mumbai, 10 in Pimpri Chinchwad, two in Pune, and one each in Kalyan Dombivali,
Nagpur, Latur, and Vasai Virar.
When international airports reopened on December 1st,
When international airports across India began enforcing
severe requirements for passengers from "at-risk" countries on
December 1, Maharashtra went even farther, requiring institutional quarantine.
Only individuals from three 'ultra-risk' countries
"must be deboarded on priority.... (and) sent to mandatory 7 days'
institutional quarantine," according to newly updated rules.
Since the first two cases were announced on December 2,
India has reported 60 Omicron Covid cases.
