A TMC MP has filed a privilege motion against former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi.

Ranjan Gogoi was asked about his presence in Parliament during a recent interview with NDTV. Covid restrictions and dissatisfaction with the lack of social separation and seating arrangements were highlighted by the former CJI.

Former Supreme Court Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi's remarks in a recent interview with NDTV have prompted Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Mausam Noor to file a privilege motion against him. Similar motions are anticipated to be introduced by at least ten other legislators from various parties.

Gogoi was queried about his attendance in Parliament during the interview, which aired on December 9. "I go to the RS when I feel like, when I think there are important topics on which I should speak," the former CJI said, citing Covid restrictions and dissatisfaction with the lack of social distancing and seating arrangements. I am a nominated member who is not subject to any party whipping."

"What is this magic about RS?" Gogoi replied when asked about joining the Rajya Sabha just four months after resigning as Chief Justice of India. If I had been a chairman of a tribunal, I would have had better compensation and emoluments."

The statements, according to the motion, are a breach of the House's dignity.
